Galway city is served by train services from Dublin (via Midlands and East Galway), as well as public and private bus services from all parts of Ireland. The normal drop-off point for all these services is Galway city centre (in or near Eyre Square), though some of the private bus services will drop-off at Newcastle if so requested.
From Galway city centre, you can take a bus or taxi to Upper Newcastle. If taking a taxi, go to the rank at the top of Eyre Square and ask for the Cairnes Building (formerly known as "St. Anthony's") in Upper Newcastle. If taking a bus, take the No. 4W Bus Eireann service to Newcastle from Eyre Square.
You will proceed past Galway cathedral to the top of University Road, then turning right at the Esso station along Newcastle Road. After passing through two sets of traffic lights in quick succession, you will come to a third set of lights at a crossroads (Statoil garage to your right). About 150m after passing through the crossroads, you will see a main entrance to NUI Galway on your right. If taking a bus, you should dismount here - there is a bus stop before the gateway, directly opposite a walking entrance (ask the driver to let you know when you are at the "Moyola Park" stop in Upper Newcastle).
Just inside the walking entrance, you will see the NUI Galway sign. Turn left and you will now see Cairnes Building - a three storey building with Georgian windows to which has been added a modern extension. If you are here to meet a member of staff, please see the Academic Staff page for details of office locations.
Galway Airport is 5 miles to the east of Galway city. To get from the airport to the Department of Accountancy & Finance, either hail a taxi or hire a car (see directions above for travelling by car).
Shannon International Airport and Knock International Airport are both approximately 1 hour's drive from Galway city. Neither are served by regular public transport connections to Galway, so you must hire a car (see directions above for travelling by car).
Dublin International Airport is approximately 3.5 hour's drive from Galway city, but has flight connections to Galway. A number of private bus services also operate connections from Dublin Airport to Galway city ( City Link, Bus Nestor), and public bus connections via city centre are also available.
